Do you want to know more about London airports? Here's a short guide to London Airports. A vast
network of airlines takes off and lands at London airports: Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, Stansted and City
Heathrow Airport is the UK's largest and
fourth busiest airport in the world.
It is Europe's busiest airport in passenger traffic and the second busiest airport in terms of
It is currently owned and controlled by BAA. It has five terminals and operates as a regional
base to over 90 airlines, which fly to more than 150 destinations transporting millions of passengers worldwide. It
is well connected to the London underground to get into any part of the city.
Gatwick Airport is the UK's second largest
and busiest airport and is owned by Global Infrastructure Partners. Operated by Gatwick Airport Limited, it has two
terminals, north and south. It was awarded as the "Best Privatized Airport" in the World in the year 2005.
Stansted Airport is London's third busiest airport
that serves as a budget airline hub.
It is currently under the ownership and control of BAA and has one terminal with Check-in
concourse for arrivals and departures.
It is not very close to London and travellers are somewhat stressed to find out at their
arrival. To go to London Victoria by coach it takes about 2 hours at the cost of about 10 GBP, while by train it
takes 45 minutes at the cost of about 30 GBP. This must be calculated on top of your "low cost" airfare.
Luton Airport is owned by Luton Borough
Council and functioned by London Luton Airport Operations Ltd. It has a single runway and serves European
destinations. The layout of the terminal is unusual with ground-side access via a road to a bus station, drop off
area and car park on the runway side of the terminal building.
London City Airport is London's smallest airport.
It is under the joint ownership of GIP (75%) and Highstar Capital (25%) trading as London City Airport Ltd. It
has one small runway and accommodates smaller planes that need short take off and landing runs.
All London airports have a pleasing ambiance with eye catching shopping centers and facilities
with some of the world biggest designer brands. Many tourist attractions and commercial centers are located within
the close vicinity of the airports. Hotels with spacious rooms and modern amenities are available for travelers to
relax and visit London. Transportation facilities to and from airports and other destinations in London or the UK
are fast, safe and convenient.
